AUTHOR'S STATEMENT

Jean-Robert Longhi is a renowned photographer known for his black and white works. His unique artistic style captures striking emotions and details, creating a timeless atmosphere in each image. Through his photographs, he invites viewers to explore the beauty and complexity of the world around them.

I've been interested in photography since my teenage years. I grew up surrounded by photographs taken by my grandfathers in the interwar years. My profession led me to neglect photography for a long time, but I've returned to it in recent years. Photography helps me cope with life; it has allowed me to withstand the pressures of my job and allows me to cleanse my soul. For me, it's a quest for beauty and harmony with the world around us. It's also a way to preserve the image of this fragile world.

Photography, etymologically, is of course the art of writing with light. It is the art of capturing the ephemeral, that which has passed. I seek to transcribe something else in my images, to capture the passage of time. Time that is yet to come, time that is present, and time that is no more. The need to rediscover humility in the face of the world around us, the quest for a just relationship with the world.

Finding one's own path, being authentic. As an epigraph, I quote Pierre Soulages once again: "...I paint so that whoever looks at it, myself as well as anyone else, can find themselves, facing it, alone with themselves."

Fine art photography is inherently a creative process, an expression of the photographer's unique vision of the world and reality. My photos may belong to this category, but while I have faith in what I do, I absolutely must remain humble. In this field, I am never happier than when my images evoke an emotion in those who view them, an emotion that resonates with what I have tried to convey. I believe that for me, this creative process is vital. It is akin to meditation, a process of merging with the world around us.
