The Château d'If, seen from the Saint Estève cove. Built on the orders of Francis I at the beginning of the 16th century, the Château d'If primarily served as a prison. Alexandre Dumas made it the place of confinement for his hero Edmond Dantès in his famous novel "The Count of Monte Cristo." The castle was also used as a filming location for some scenes of the 2024 film "The Count of Monte Cristo."
