The opera house... just steps from the Old Port, it gives its name to the district where it is located. The opera house we know was inaugurated at the end of 1924. It was built on the ruins of the previous Marseille opera house, or Grand Théâtre, which had been inaugurated in 1787 and destroyed in 1919 by a fire that left only the walls and the colonnade standing.
