The Panier district, the oldest in Marseille, is home to the Hôtel-Dieu, the city's oldest hospital. The Hôtel-Dieu was founded at the end of the 16th century. The current buildings were erected in the 18th century and renovated in the 19th century, inaugurated by Napoleon III.
